When we talk about Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the main draw is definitely those heart-pounding life-or-death battles and the incredible techniques the characters unleash at the cost of their lives.
Even though the story has concluded, fans are still constantly debating things like, "Who’s actually stronger: the Hashira or the Upper Moons?" and "How high did an awakened Tanjiro actually climb?"
To put these debates to rest, I’ve put together a definitive power ranking based on the manga's depiction, official databooks, and battle records. This isn't just a popularity contest. I'm focusing on "individual combat power" at their absolute peak—taking into account the Demon Slayer Mark, the "Transparent World," and the Selfless State.
Let's dive into the Top 20 and see where your favorite character landed!

Demon Slayer Character Power Rankings: Top 20
No. 20: Kyojuro Rengoku
At No. 20, we have the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. While he's legendary for his leadership and mental fortitude during the Mugen Train Arc, his raw combat ability is also top-tier.
Despite not having a Mark, he fought Upper Moon 3, Akaza, to a near-standstill and came inches away from taking his head. His "Ninth Form: Rengoku" was so explosive it warped the air itself, leading Akaza to praise his battle spirit as being "close to the Territory of the Supreme."
The reason he isn't higher is that the slayers above him, like Sanemi, reached a higher ceiling with the Mark and specific buffs. However, compared to any base-level Hashira, Rengoku’s refined spirit puts him a head above the rest.
No. 19: Sanemi Shinazugawa
The Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, takes the 19th spot. Sanemi’s strength lies in his insane aggression and a level of toughness that defies logic—the man simply refuses to stay down.
With the Mark, his Wind Breathing reaches a level of speed that allowed him to keep up with Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo. But his secret weapon is his "Marechi" blood. It’s a rare type that acts like high-grade alcohol to demons, making them "drunk" and disoriented. This debuff allows him to control the pace against stronger foes.
No. 18: Giyu Tomioka
Taking No. 18 is the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. Giyu has been a mentor figure since Chapter 1, but his true strength peaked during the battle against Akaza in the Infinity Castle.
His mastery of the "Eleventh Form: Dead Calm" is essentially a cheat code for defense, nullifying any attack that enters its range. While Sanemi relies on aggression and blood buffs, Giyu’s calm analysis and absolute defense give him a slight edge in a duel. He survives where others fall, which is a strength in itself.
No. 17: Gyokko
Coming in at 17 is Upper Moon 5, the "artist" Gyokko. His strength comes from his incredibly tricky blood demon arts. He can teleport between pots, trap slayers in water basins to cut off their breathing, and turn anything he touches into a fish.
Against Giyu, Gyokko’s persistent long-range attacks and spatial manipulation would be a nightmare to pin down. While Muichiro defeated him, it required the Mark and a specific psychological play to exploit Gyokko's pride.
No. 16: Gyutaro
The real power behind Upper Moon 6, Gyutaro, grabs the 16th spot. It’s often said that if he hadn't been held back by his sister Daki, he could have been much higher in the ranks.
His "Flying Blood Sickles" provide massive range and carry a lethal poison that kills almost instantly. Combined with his battle-hardened instincts and the "shared life" gimmick with Daki, he is an absolute wall. He nearly dismantled Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui and the main trio single-handedly.
No. 15: Mitsuri Kanroji
The Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, sits at 15. Her secret is her muscle density—8 times that of a normal human—allowing her to wield a whip-like sword with incredible speed and power.
During the battle against Zohakuten (the combined form of Hantengu), her Marked state allowed her to shred through wide-range attacks that would have vaporized other slayers. Her attack speed actually exceeds that of Tengen Uzui. Her sheer physical durability and explosive speed allow her to outpace Gyutaro’s poison before it can settle the fight.
No. 14: Muichiro Tokito
The Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, is the definition of a prodigy. Descended from the first Breath users, he became a Hashira just two months after picking up a blade.
His peak at the end of the series saw him reach the "Transparent World" and manifest a "Bright Red Nichirin Sword." These are domains only accessible to the highest tier of warriors. His ability to delay Upper Moon 1 while missing limbs shows a level of lethality and grit that slightly edges out Mitsuri’s raw power.
No. 13: Zohakuten
The manifestation of Upper Moon 4’s hatred, Zohakuten is a tactical weapon. By drumming his stone dragons, he can unleash wood manipulation, lightning, shockwaves, and sound blasts simultaneously.
For an individual swordsman, this volume of attacks is nearly impossible to suppress alone. He pushed Mitsuri to her limit and requires multiple high-level combatants to even bypass his defenses to find the main body.
No. 12: Gyomei Himejima
The strongest Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, takes No. 12. Even Kokushibo admitted he hadn't seen a warrior of this caliber in 300 years.
Gyomei doesn't use a sword; he uses a heavy flail and axe connected by a chain that absorbs sunlight. His physical strength is monstrous, and his ability to sense the world through vibrations and the "Transparent World" despite being blind makes him a defensive and offensive god. He could likely pulverize Zohakuten’s dragons through sheer brute force.
No. 11: Akaza
Upper Moon 3, Akaza, is a seeker of the "Supreme Territory." His "Compass Needle" allows him to sense a foe's fighting spirit and strike their weak points with 100% accuracy.
What puts him above Gyomei is his evolution: he eventually overcame the weakness of decapitation. Even if Gyomei crushes his head, Akaza’s will to fight allows him to regrow his body and continue. Only his own choice to stop fighting led to his defeat.
No. 10: Doma
Upper Moon 2, Doma, is terrifying because he views murder as a hobby. His ice-based Blood Demon Art is the natural enemy of all slayers; his "Cold White Princesses" and ice clouds freeze the lungs of anyone who tries to use Total Concentration Breathing.
Against a physical fighter like Akaza, Doma simply has to fill the air with frost to end the fight. He can also create ice clones that are just as strong as he is, giving him overwhelming control over the battlefield.
No. 9: Kokushibo
The pinnacle of the Twelve Kizuki, Upper Moon 1. As the brother of Yoriichi, he combines Demon regeneration with "Moon Breathing."
His attacks are chaotic, surrounded by tiny, irregular crescent moon blades that make his reach impossible to predict. He took on two of the strongest Hashira (Gyomei and Sanemi) plus two prodigies at the same time and nearly killed them all. He represents the absolute peak of "Demon Swordsmanship."
No. 8: Tanjiro Kamado (Final Form)
Our hero, Tanjiro, finally reached the source of all breathing: "Sun Breathing" (Hinokami Kagura). At his peak during the final fight with Muzan, he mastered the 13th Form, the "Transparent World," and the "Selfless State."
By erasing his fighting spirit, he moves in a realm where even Kokushibo would struggle to track him. His blade carries the literal power of the sun, which is poison to demons, giving him a higher "kill potential" than the Upper Moons.
No. 7: Muzan Kibutsuji
The progenitor of all demons, Muzan. We’re ranking him at his full power before Tamayo’s poisons began to rot his body.
In this state, he is a walking apocalypse. He possesses multiple brains and hearts, making him nearly impossible to kill without sunlight. His whip-like tentacles move faster than sound, and a single scratch injects blood that destroys cells at a molecular level. He is the disaster that forced every slayer to their limit.
No. 6: Nezuko Kamado
Nezuko is the "Chosen Demon" who conquered the sun. Her physical evolution is staggering, and her "Exploding Blood" is specifically designed to kill demons and burn away Muzan’s curse.
The fact that she did what Muzan couldn't—survive sunlight—means her cellular structure has transcended the limits of demon-kind. While she lacks the refined sword techniques of those above her, her immunity to the sun and her anti-demon fire make her an apex existence.
No. 5: Michikatsu Tsugikuni
This is the human form of Kokushibo. As one of the original practitioners of the Sun Breathing era, his skill was second only to his brother. He developed "Moon Breathing" to try and catch up to the sun.
He was a warrior of the Golden Age who possessed the Mark. His refined skill, combined with the pride and technique of a legendary samurai, puts him above the raw instinctual power of Nezuko.
No. 4: Sumiyoshi
Tanjiro’s ancestor. While he wasn't a "slayer," he was the only one who could perfectly memorize and replicate Yoriichi’s Sun Breathing as a "dance."
In terms of pure technical form, Sumiyoshi’s replication was the closest thing to divinity. He passed down a "perfected" version of the art that even the strongest Hashira couldn't grasp. However, his lack of combat experience keeps him just outside the top 3.
No. 3: Tanjiro Kamado (Demon King Form)
For a brief moment, Tanjiro became the Demon King. He possessed Muzan’s power, Sun Breathing talent, and an immediate immunity to sunlight.
He had no weaknesses. No Nichirin blade or poison could kill him. He was the "Perfect Being" Muzan dreamed of. He only "lost" because his human soul fought back from the inside.
No. 2: Yoriichi Tsugikuni (Old Age)
Even at over 80 years old, Yoriichi was a monster. He was born with the Mark and the Transparent World.
In his final moments, he nearly killed Kokushibo with a single strike, dying of old age mid-swing while still standing. Even as a frail old man, the "Strongest Demon" couldn't even touch the hem of his robe.
No. 1: Yoriichi Tsugikuni (Prime)
The undisputed GOAT. Yoriichi in his prime is the benchmark of power in the series.
He defeated Muzan in seconds, leaving the Demon King so traumatized that his cells literally trembled at the sight of Tanjiro’s earrings centuries later. Yoriichi didn't have to "reach" for the Transparent World or the Mark; he lived in them. He is the sun around which the entire story revolves.
Final Thoughts: The Meaning of Strength
Looking back at the Top 20, it’s clear that "strength" in Demon Slayer isn't just about muscle. It's about the legacy passed down through generations and the spirit to overcome one's own limits.
Yoriichi may be the god of the series, but the way the Hashira and Tanjiro pushed themselves to bridge that gap is what makes the story so resonant. Who do you think is the strongest? Start a debate with your friends and keep the spirit of the Corps alive!
