The Mysteries Left Behind After the Jujutsu Kaisen Finale
Gege Akutami’s legendary manga Jujutsu Kaisen officially wrapped up its 6.
5-year run in the fall of 2024.
From the jump, it was hailed as the "successor to Demon Slayer," amassing a massive global fanbase with its intricate plot points and high-stakes drama.
Whether you’re a day-one manga reader or someone who got hooked through the Mappa anime and the JJK 0 movie, you know this world is deep.
But now that the dust has settled, many of us are scratching our heads, asking: "Wait, what happened to that one theory?" Despite the hype, several unresolved plot holes and lingering mysteries still haunt the fandom.
Today, I'm diving into the unexplained Lore and the mixed reactions to the series' conclusion.
Let's see where the Power scaling landed and why some fans are still feeling salty about the ending.
Core Mysteries That Never Got a Clear Answer
Even though we reached the end of the road, some fundamental questions about our favorite characters and the world's mechanics were left hanging in the air.
Yuji Itadori: Power Level and the Secret of His Birth
Yuji Itadori has always been an anomaly.
His superhuman physical Feats—like breaking world records without a drop of Cursed Energy—were finally explained in the final arc, but some details remain murky.
We found out his father, Jin Itadori, was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin, and his mother, Kaori, was possessed by Kenjaku.
This makes Yuji the nephew of the King of Curses, or essentially his son in terms of soul-blood.
However, we never learned why Jin didn't question his dead wife "coming back" with stitches on her forehead, or where he went.
Plus, remember when Sukuna and Uraume mentioned Yuji looked like a sorcerer from the Harima province? That name-drop went nowhere! Who was that guy, and what was his real connection to Sukuna? We might never know if Yuji was always meant to be among the OP characters by design or just pure luck.
Scarred Faces: Utahime, Todo, and Mechamaru
While we found out Todo got his scar from his "Goated" teacher Yuki Tsukumo, Utahime’s facial scar remains a total mystery.
Fans were also curious about Mechamaru (Kokichi Muta); since he operated via puppets, why did his actual body have those specific scars? The manga ended without giving these visual details a proper backstory.
Sukuna’s Technique and the "Human" Path
The King of Curses is the gold standard for the Strongest character ranking, using "Dismantle" and "Cleave.
" We finally saw his fire technique, "Fuga" (Divine Flame), but why it’s tied to "Kamutoke" or kitchen/cooking metaphors wasn't fully explored.
Most interestingly, the story hinted Sukuna had two chances to live as a human rather than a curse.
One was Uraume, but the second person was only shown as a silhouette.
Who were they? That's a huge piece of Sukuna's Lore left in the dark.
Yuta’s Ancestry and Panda’s Soul
Gojo claimed Yuta Okkotsu is a descendant of Michizane Sugawara.
But during the Culling Game, the ancient sorcerer Uro called him a "Fujiwara.
" Which one is it? Also, Panda lost his Gorilla and triceratops souls, leaving him with only one.
If his ego was maintained by three souls "observing" each other, what happens to him now? Is he still the same Panda?
Why Some Fans Hated the Ending
With a series this complex, expectations for a "perfect" ending were sky-high.
Unfortunately, the finale left a portion of the Reddit and Twitter communities pretty frustrated.
Rushed Pacing and Abandoned Plots
The biggest complaint? Pacing.
The final showdown with Sukuna and Megumi’s rescue felt like a sprint.
The "Hype" and catharsis fans wanted were diluted because it felt like Gege was rushing to the finish line.
Major plot points—like the truth behind Yuji’s grandfather’s last words, the "Merge" involving 100 million people, and the Tengen/Sukuna connection—didn't get the deep dive they deserved.
Character Treatment: Gojo and Megumi
Gojo Satoru, the undisputed icon of the Strongest character ranking, died against Sukuna, but the aftermath of his death felt hollow to many.
Fans wanted a more meaningful send-off for the man who carried the series.
As for Megumi Fushiguro, he spent the final arc as a vegetable while Sukuna used his body to kill his sister, Tsumiki.
His eventual "awakening" lacked the screen time fans felt it needed after so much trauma.
The Tonal Shift to a "Happy Ending"
JJK has always been dark and gritty.
After so many brutal deaths, seeing the survivors just hanging out and doing low-stakes missions in the final chapter felt like "tonal whiplash" to some.
It didn't feel like the same series that gave us the Shibuya Incident.
Deep Diving into the Unresolved Plot Holes
The Traitor in the Higher-Ups
Gojo was convinced there was another traitor besides Mechamaru.
While the series ended with the higher-ups basically being wiped out, we never got a name for a second mole.
Was it just Kenjaku’s influence, or was there someone specific? The connection between Tengen and Kenjaku being "old friends" suggests the corruption went deeper than we saw.
Tengen and the Star Plasma Vessel
Tengen is the backbone of the Jujutsu world, yet we still don't know why Sukuna’s mummified remains were being preserved by them.
Yuki Tsukumo being a former Star Plasma Vessel also felt like a "Chekhov’s Gun" that never fired.
It’s a bit of a letdown considering how much weight the Hidden Inventory arc put on that Lore.
Where Are They Now? Post-Battle Status
Aoi Todo
The brother we all love! After losing his hand in Shibuya, he made a massive comeback in the Shinjuku showdown with a "Vibraslap" attached to his stump.
He basically buffed his "Boogie Woogie" to an OP level.
While we didn't see him in the final panels, his survival is a win for the fans.
Takaba Fumihiko
The guy with the most broken technique in the series.
Most thought he died after his "comedy battle" with Kenjaku, but the finale revealed he’s alive and still doing stand-up with a partner who looks suspiciously like Kenjaku.
Truly a "Goated" ending for a weird character.
Resolved Mysteries: The Answers We Actually Got
It’s not all unanswered questions! Gege did deliver on some major reveals as the series hit its climax.
Yuta Okkotsu’s Current State
Many wondered if Yuta became weaker after Rika was "exorcised" in Vol 0.
The Culling Game proved he’s still a beast.
While the "original" Rika soul is gone, her "will" and the Cursed Energy remain as a vessel.
By "connecting" via the ring, Yuta can still access his OP arsenal for 5 minutes.
His strength is a mix of insane talent and his unbreakable bond with Rika.
Tengen’s Reality
Tengen wasn't a traitor, just a victim of Kenjaku’s planning.
The fact that the Culling Game barriers were based on Tengen’s own barriers was a massive "Oh, snap!" moment.
It proved Tengen was the most important pawn on the board, even if they weren't the one making the moves.
Yuji’s Physical Prowess
Finally, the reason for Yuji’s insane stats was confirmed: it was the result of being the perfect Vessel.
Even before he started eating fingers, Kenjaku had engineered his body to be compatible with Cursed Energy, essentially making him a "Cursed Object" in human form.
This allowed him to bridge the gap in Power scaling through sheer physical dominance and his legendary "Black Flash" Feats.
Final Thoughts and What’s Next
The Jujutsu Kaisen finale is still a hot topic of debate.
Whether you think it’s a masterpiece or a rushed mess, there’s no denying the impact this series had on the world.
Maybe we'll get a databook or a spin-off to clear up these mysteries? Or maybe Gege wants us to keep theorizing forever.
What do you guys think? Did the ending kill the "Hype," or are you satisfied with the "Proper Death" the series received? Let me know in the comments!
